Welcome
Our Hockey Program is carefully designed to provide boys and girls elite training and maximum exposure. We ensure our student athletes are seen. This means going to some of the biggest and most prestigious tournaments and showcases. For 2012/2013 we will have 4 boys teams (U18, U17 a & b and U15) and 2 Girls teams (U19 Gold, U19 Maroon)
Our teams are Hockey Canada sanctioned and OHA is registered as a Hockey Canada Residential School. The Boys' U17 AAA will play Major Midget and the U15 AAA will play Minor Midget in the Ontario East Minor Hockey League (OEMHL). The Boys' Prep team (U18) will play predominately in the United States. The Girls' Intermediate teams will play in both Canada and the United States to ensure maximum exposure to NCAA college scouts. All coaches and trainers are approved through Hockey Canada which includes certification and background checks.
Our development program focuses on the individual. The Academy identifies individual needs and develops individualized training programs. Taking into account the student-athlete’s skill level, talent, position, development, age, strengths, weaknesses, and knowledge, we design our player's training schedule accordingly. We constantly monitor the program and the athlete, and make the necessary changes or adjustments that are required.
“ Growing up, my passion for hockey drove my academic performance. Because of hockey, I attended University. I would have never gone if it wasn'’t for hockey. I’'m lucky hockey forced me to continue my schooling which developed my enthusiasm for learning. As part of a team with high performance academic-athletes, my teammates' work ethic inspired me. I soon realized the parallel between the work ethic required in hockey and the work ethic needed to succeed in your personal and school life. The Academy is a unique school for those who have aspirations of studying, training, and playing hockey at the highest level with others that have the same goals in mind. Our students will achieve excellence in academics, athletics and personal development. It definitely worked for me!”

In the past 10 years, more and more players are choosing Prep Schools for superior academics and hockey. Collegiate and junior teams are heavily scouting prep schools players due to their talents both on and off the ice. Ddiscipline, commitment and sacrifice ae the traits needs to succeed as a prep school athlete, are the traits exhibited by the best hockey players and are the traits wanted by the best teams.
OHA is the ONLY prep school in Eastern CANADA that
1. Is an accredited private high school
2. Is sanctioned with Hockey Canada
3. Plays in a minor hockey AAA league
4. Runs a full year hockey program
In the past four years, t he Ontario Hockey Academy, has placed over 35 players in North America Junior A Hockey Leagues including 12 in the Tier 1 National Champion Canadian Central Junior Hockey League (CCHL), which is one of the most scouted Junior Leagues in North America.
Junior hockey is a major step between High School years and University. Today, it is almost a prerequiste, to play juniors to get scouted for a university team. USA Hockey (Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3), Hockey Canada (Major Junior, Junior A) , and independent leagues all provide excellent stepping stones to the college ranks. However, NCAA eligibility, import limits, and league prestige are all factors that need to be considered when deciding on playing at the junior level. OHA employs a full time hockey advisor to help weed through these issues and help get the the right palyers to the right teams.
At OHA, we live and breathe hockey. But, we ensure our academics and hockey work together, giving our student-athletes the competitive edge both on and off the ice. We understand students have different needs, and we work towards developing personalized training programs that provide extra time for practice, academics and personal training. We challenge our students on a daily basis and expect total commitment to excellence on the ice and in the classroom.
A Note to Parents:
We urge all parents to make education a priority and encourage post-seconday education. Whether it is NCAA (Divsion I or III), CIS, or university club hockey, we hope all students go to and succeed at the university level. With a well-planned approach, both education and hockey development can be achieved. Ensuring a great education, simply makes great sense!
OHA Graduate Sebastien Gingras (Montreal, QC) currently plays in the CCHL with the Brockville Braves has committed to NCAA DI Union College
OHA Graduate Kenneth Neil (Clarence, Newfoundland) is playing in the CCHL with the top ranked Junior A Nepean Raiders. Kenny stands in the top 5 in scoring.

Province of Ontario
Province of Ontario is a Hockey Factory. The Province of Ontario sends more players to the NHL than any other province or country, 2 to 1. Ontario has produced the most NHL players in every season throughout NHL history. Im not telling you this to say if you play in Ontario you will go to the NHL, there is no doubt the depth of the players in Ontario is uncontested. The result the teams and leagues in Ontario are without a doubt are the best in the world. Statistics back this claims.
Look at Team Canada World Junior team ......... Eastern Canada Players .... 12 from Ontario, 1 Atlantic, 2 Quebec.
Team Canada U17, U18, U20, - Ontario leading the way with 10 or more players everytime. 1 or 2 from other provinces
NHL top 10 scorers - not surprising …... tend to be at least 6 out of 10 players Ontario born
NHL Draft , tend to see at least 50% of Ontario players in the 1st round
And look at the 2009 Draft, 4 of the top 7 picks - Ontario Players
1 Taylor Hall - Edmonton Oilers 2 Tyler Seguin - Boston Bruins
3 Erik Gudbranson - Florida Panthers 7 Jeff Skinner - Carolina Hurricanes

AAA Hockey and Education
Ontario Hockey Academy being the ONLY sanctioned accredited prep residential school in Eastern Canada that plays in a AAA league. OHA players play in the province that continues to develop the best players. our model is developed as a result of researching the best developing programs and how they develop top players. We’ve watched, visited, studied, explored and tested methods of training hockey players to succeed at the next level. The OHA model includes a higher practice to games ratio, importance on getting out of your comfort zone, along with an emphasis on a linear skills development of training hockey players. Hence our academy is a place where players can grow and receive game ice, important off ice training and structured academics before they move to junior and university hockey.
Many players go undeveloped because they spend too much time traveling, competing and recovering from competition and not enough time preparing for it. And education has taken a backseat. Look at the NHL, more teams have more playing coming from a Academic-Athletic model, where academics, athletics, training and deloping are all merged into one working together.
Ontario Hockey Academy
In our short history, we've placed a player on Team Canada East team, into the NCAAs, Major Junior A and Junior A. Although these are only a few of our accomplishments, we are receiving numerous enquiries from Junior hockey and collegiate teams. We are proud of this as it is a great accomplishment in such a short time----it only promises to continue up hill for OHA.
Players will play against some of the top future prospects that one day will play in the world junior tournaments and in the NHL. Hence the competition will be the toughest!!! There is no doubt that Canada has the best leagues and the best junior hockey, especially here in Ontario. Southern and Eastern Ontario places more players in the NHL than any other province, state or country.
Our growth has been amazing and we constantly receive inquiries from scouts about our teams and players. In the last few months we received over 40 inquiries from Major Junior A, Junior A, and schools across North America. We continue to make changes to our program to meet the demands of the player. Our location gives access to coaches from the Central Junior A Hockey League, which has placed many players in Major Junior A and in the past 4 years placed over 100 players into NCAA programs.
