NCAA Eligibility Center

The NCAA is an organization that establishes whether you are eligible to play Division I or II sports. You must submit your official transcripts from school and have your SAT/ACT scores sent to the NCAA Eligibility Center. They will look at these and decide if you are eligible to play for a NCAA Division I or II level team.  You do not need to do this if you are looking at a Division III school, as the NCAA Eligibility Center does not apply to Division III. Division III schools have their own eligibility requirements.

The NCAA Eligibility Center evaluates the courses you have taken and changes your grades to a Grade Point Average. All GPAs are on a scale of 0 to 4. For example, a 3.0 is a 'B'.

The NCAA requires that you complete a series of core courses.  You need 4 years of English, 3 years Math, 2 years of Science, 2 years of social studies, and 5
additional courses. These course need to be approved by the NCAA. The core courses used at OHA were selected to meet this requirement. This includes the Ontario curriculum. Not all courses in the Ontario public school system are NCAA approved. You need to make sure your courses meet NCAA eligibility standards; otherwise, you may be deemed ineligible. It is possible to graduate from an Ontario school but still be ineligible to play NCAA sports because of poor course selection.

In addition, you must also submit your SAT scores and there is a "passing " or minimum score you must have in combination with your GPA. This is separate from the minimum SAT score that each school requires for admission.

You should register after your junior year (Grade 11). It costs $75.00 USD. What it does is it gives the Guidance Department at your school permission to send your transcripts to the Eligibility Center. They then evaluate your Grade 9-11 marks and courses. Once you graduate, the Guidance Dept. sends in your final grades. The Eligibility Center then rules on your final eligibility, so that when a member school asks about you, they can see if you are eligible to play. You personally cannot send this information directly to a school and only the schools interested in you have access to your file at the NCAA Eligibility Center.

At OHA, we will ensure you are registered and you meet all the required deadlines to play in a Division I school.
